Photographer Ben Von Wong recently had the opportunity to bring a dream to life, and despite a hectic schedule, he was determined to help a shy and very ill writer who had emailed his agent in the hopes that he'd consider taking some photos of her. Nicole wrote “I'd like some photos taken of me by a really good photographer while I still have some weight on me... I’d like to look beautiful or interesting. Anything but sick.” She wasn't sure he'd want to do it, and was prepared for a polite 'no', but Ben was intrigued, and two weeks later they'd organised a concept, assistants, location, To View More >>

Australian couple Kailin and Sia made the trip from Adelaide to Sydney for their engagement shoot. Their photographer Leah Kua who is based in Sydney, decided to take them to Wattamolla Beach for this gorgeous photo-shoot. Kailin and Sia are glowing! They look relaxed and like they're really enjoying being photographed together. They are using this 10x7 Duo as a guest book at their wedding - what a lovely idea! Their album starts with a Futura translucent title page. What Leah loves most about this location is the number of hidden spots that usually have no one around - perfect To View More >>

I took the opportunity last Sunday to change how I did things. It was partly out of necessity, and partly curiosity. [caption id="attachment_1008" align="alignleft" width="324" caption="Jo and Jeremy"][/caption] My clients had indicated that they would like me to preplan their album. Normally we would shoot the wedding, put some images on our blog, then put about 100 in a web gallery. Then, when they arrived to collect their images, we would give them a box of previews. But we were running a little behind schedule and the prints were not going to be ready for their arrival. I decided not to put To View More >>

We love meeting New Zealanders doing good things around the world, so it was great to catch up with Rachael and Andy McKenna last night. Born and bred a Kiwi, Rachael has published fourteen books over the course of her career, reflecting her passion for photographing pets and babies. Rachael and Andy have been based in France for the last four years, so no surprise that her latest titles are the delightful The French Cat, The French Dog and Lunch in Provence. Rachael's latest project is The New York Dog. If you're card-carrying dog lovers like us, you'll find the images in this blog post heartwarming. To View More >>

Last weekend we had the pleasure of sending Michelle along as a Queensberry representative to Kate Robinson's 'Planted With Light' photography workshop and seminar. We had a taster range of albums, books and lab products on display and Michelle happily chatted with the attendees throughout the day. Kate's workshop was meticulously planned and delivered. At the start, Kate said that she would be open and sharing with her business and photography knowledge.  She was true to her word! Topics covered included marketing, planning, preparing and managing a wedding shoot, paperwork and administration, To View More >>

"Value your time, skill, training and art" - Today we're talking to Lauren & Delwyn about the photography industry, designing albums and building your brand.  • Tell us a bit about yourselves and how you got into photography Delwyn and I are both trained Graphic Designers, Delwyn at Unitec, and myself at Waikato University. We met through a mutual workplace in 2008, and started second shooting weddings for each other. • How do you promote your business and build your brand? We work hard to create a strong 'word of mouth' brand. We also take advantage of the internet as much as we can To View More >>

How famous are you? Seriously. In your neighbourhood and around the world? Being world famous is cool, and sometimes it may be important, but for most of us being famous in our own back yard is good enough. Here's a case in point. In New Zealand there's a drink called Lemon and Paeroa (L&P to its friends). It's "world famous in New Zealand", so famous it has its own statue. But I'll bet you've never heard of it, and they probably don't care. Watch this rather weird video if you need a laugh for the day (isn't that Jermaine Clement of Flight of the Conchords doing the voiceover?). We want to To View More >>

After a little wedding invitation inspiration? From Mashable... "Two German geeks/gamers just upped the ante when it comes to wedding invitations. The pair programed two versions of a Mario-inspired 8-bit video game as their wedding invitations and sent them out to friends and family. Guests are challenged to beat the game should they wish to unlock the wedding details. Their video game wedding invitations — dubbed Incredible Adventure — also included some custom packaging and two different versions of the game so would-be guests could play as either the bride or the groom. Following on from Sonya's post about loving photos, and the thought 'what would you save if your house was on fire?' I found The Burning House, a website which is absolutely devoted to that very question. The site is an invitation for anyone to post a photo and list of what possessions you'd take with you. It describes the decision as "a philosophical conflict between what's practical, valuable and sentimental". It really does give an insight to your personality, interests and priorities. Not surprisingly many of the posts include photo albums, boxes of photographs, old film and framed To View More >>
