Simon Woolf is one of the most energetic and engaging people I know. When I interviewed him he was in Auckland as official photographer at our previous Prime Minister Helen Clark's investiture to the Order of New Zealand. He got a hug from Helen because they know each other that well and he's that nice a guy. A couple of nights earlier I'd spotted him on TV in the media scrum at Willie Apiata's Victoria Cross ceremony. Again he was the official photographer. And to complete the picture of a guy who's everywhere, one of his landscape images, of an unusual sunrise, had featured the day before in To View More >>

You sell what you show, right? Well here's a few Queensberry friends we've noticed doing a fantastic job of showing off their albums. Abby Rosenbaum from Abby Rose Photo seems to photograph and blog about all of her albums... Here's one of the latest albums featured on her blog. The team at Blue Sky Photography in the UK have a dedicated web page explaining their philosophy behind using Queensberry albums. They also include links to several example album designs. And New Zealand photographer Bruce Gabites of Fine Photography features some lovely images of his Queensberry albums in the album section To View More >>

(Warning: contains references to blue-grass and rock music) Johannes introduced me to his friends, Lyttelton band The Eastern. That’s OK, nobody else has heard of them either, and that's the point of this post. A while ago The Eastern opened in Auckland for Steve Earle, and more recently for Old Crow Medicine Show. Old Crow who? Heather and I bought tickets anyway, probably the only people in the audience who didn’t know anything about the main act. But then they came out and played. I was hooked after the first few bars Ketch looked wry, ironic and after your girlfriend. Willie wore a Neil To View More >>

Last week it was NZIPP in Queenstown. This week Photography By Woolf's 50th Anniversary exhibition in Wellington. They very kindly invited Heather and me to share in the family celebration afterwards. It was his birthday so ten-year-old Noah got to choose the restaurant. It was great fun, the whole extended family get on so well ... and it got me to thinking: 1. What a challenge it is to build a long standing family business that truly serves … the family. We know it. Chances are you do too. Well done to the Woolfs. 2. So many photographers got a start at Woolfs, and many of them featured in To View More >>

After Catherine and Michael became engaged at the Islington Hotel in Hobart it was the obvious choice when they chose to elope. When they returned for the wedding the focus was on a relaxed day with fantastic food, wine and the company of their closest friends and family. They were photographed by Jonathan Wherrett. Take a look at a few layouts from this Duo 14x10H album. To see more work by Jonathan Wherrett, click here. Enjoy! Anna To View More >>

Phyllis & James were married on December the 10th, 2011 at a beautiful outdoor ceremony on the Lone Pine Lawn of the historic Vaucluse House in Sydney. The couple chose Trish Lee of Tealily Photography to capture their day. Phyllis wore Louboutin heels and a J'aton couture gown. Just gorgeous! And their reception was at Fort Denison. They chose a Duo 14x10H album, with a cover in Onyx Micro Leather. Here are a few layouts from their album. To see more work by Tealily Photography, click here. Enjoy! Anna To View More >>

"And we rolled right past that tragedy" - Joni Mitchell, Coyote Joni Mitchell's song talks about passing a burning farmhouse in the middle of the night and driving right on by. It's a year since Christchurch's tragic quake and about eighteen months since the first shake, in which no-one died. Since then there have been countless ongoing tremors, many significant, much of the city centre has been razed, some hard-hit suburbs have been abandoned or feel it … and in our busy lives we roll right on by. Including us, in a way. We've been here in the bedlam of a trade show in Vegas - with no time to To View More >>

Who's hosting your website? Where do your images live online? Who's handling your sales? Doing your printing? Collecting the cash? Who’s designing your books and albums? How do your proof them online? Who makes them for you? How do you get your stuff out on Facebook and your blog? How many vendors are involved? How well do they work together? How much of your time does it take? And how much does it all cost? Maybe it’s all so hard you’re just giving people the “Crown Jewels” on DVD?!
