That is the big question. Andy Warhol said, “It is art as long as it's signed.” John Cage said, “It is anything you can get away with.” Why is it so important (to some) to be seen/considered as an artist? Are we as photographers overselling what we do when we call it art? Are we selling our vision as artists or our ability to use a filter or two to create art for the masses? Doc Ross once said that, ”If it comes with a statement then it is art ... otherwise it is just decoration.” So Art has a signature, intent, and a certain freedom. Most importantly, ‘Who cares?’ Maybe we care To View More >>

There's a man on the side of the road selling dreams ... a guy comes up to him and says, "How much for a dream?" The Dream salesman says, "That depends, do you want a good dream, or a bad dream?" "I want the best dream I can get." "Did you know that your dreams are drawn from your own experiences?" asks the salesman. "Now I do. Maybe I could have somebody else's dream then," says the guy, hoping for a happy experience, and realising that his lacklustre life was not the material of amazing dreams. "Funny you should ask – I have a brother who sells books and lottery tickets, maybe he can help you." To View More >>

I have to say this. That leather is beautiful. Well I certainly think so. It's is part of our new contemporary range, specially made for us. Heather and I were lucky enough to visit the tannery in Europe last month and we were very impressed. So much individual attention to every hide, from the initial inspection and grading (by four very serious men) through to the final finishing processes and packaging. Not to mention their environmental commitment,  and even the way they engaged personally with us. We visited our paper suppliers too. Same story. Great people, great product, high standards. "The frankest and freest product of the human mind and heart is a love letter; the writer gets his limitless freedom of statement and expression from his sense that no stranger is going to see what he is writing." - Mark Twain. I've always thought of wedding vows as a love letter read out loud. But the way they're typically spoken, written, and expressed, is almost forced. They're an expression of love, I think, better kept for a love letter. I want my vows to be my frankest and freest thoughts and feelings. But I don't feel that limitless freedom that Twain talks about. Knowing this letter - the To View More >>

Because you'll probably (hopefully) never be engaged again, or plan your own wedding again, or be single again... Sure planning a wedding can be stressful, and frustrating, and hard work, and all those other things that make you want to run off to Vegas and elope - but it's also exciting and fun and romantic. It's now only two days until our wedding, but we're still taking time to relax, reflect, and enjoy the process. Wish us luck, rehearsal tomorrow. Cheers, Nigel To View More >>

As a proud parent I look at other babies and want to know if we are doing okay. (It's the first time and we have no standard to work from.) When two babies meet it is easy to overlook the needs of the other parent as you well up with pride in the achievements of your offspring. Photographers can be the same with their personal prides. Good etiquette with babies is to resist outdoing the other parent with the successes of your own child (sleeps through night ... makes own breakfast, gifted, etc). Because even though it is reassuring to acknowledge the superiority of your genealogy it has no social To View More >>

Somebody asked me for a way to create a better, more consistent look for their imagery. It was a trick question really. They were asking me how they might better use software to get consistency and classic styling. I thought about it and the answer was what we might call pre-emptive image manipulation. When I go to a flash restaurant that knows their stuff I am always amazed by what a great chef can do with the simplest ingredients. They start with fresh produce ... the fresher the better (usually - cheeses are a different story). They don't beat the living daylights out of it or season it beyond To View More >>

As well as giving uploads their own tab on the Start Window we've introduced two "re-upload" options for Queensberry clients: 'Full' and 'Partial'. The Full Re-upload option, as the name suggests, uploads the entire order to Queensberry (the complete bundle - layouts, proxies, reports, everything). The Partial Re-upload option allows you to re-upload just part of the order. Here's an example. Say Queensberry spotted some sensor dust on a couple of your images in layouts one, two and three. Instead of re-uploading the whole bundle, you could make the adjustments, and re-send just those three To View More >>

Where do I find templates? In the Photojunction Store. You'll find the link to it on the Photojunction home screen (bottom right corner in case you missed it). You can search for templates by size (14x10), orientation (Horizontal) and style (simple), or by the template designer if you know who they are. Here's a bit more info about the Photojunction Store. And if you're interested in selling your own templates, here's a blog post worth reading. HTH PJ Support Team PS Check out Danny's 437 tips to boosting your template sales! To View More >>
