For a little hippy nostalgia you couldn’t ask for better than Sami Sunchild’s Red Victorian Bed & Breakfast, Peaceful World Center & Cafe in Haight-Ashbury. Still going strong 45 years after the Summer of Love. Nice food too. But it was Sami's take on how to be an entrepreneur that struck us most, and reminded me of so many photographers! Heather spotted it on the wall next to our lunch table (click here for full size). And if you think being an entrepreneur is easy, read this. All you need is love. And perseverance. Cheers, Ian Here's Grace, Janis and Jimmi for ya. To View More >>

We sincerely apologise to those of you that have been affected by the current errors occuring when designing Flushmount albums in Photojunction. For those of you that wish to have a full bleed image on the page after a translucent title you will be encountering an error that stops you from proceeding. We are aware of the problem and are working on a solution in Photojunction. In the meantime we have two options for getting around this issue: • Either drop the image onto the layout and physically drag the image to the edges or; • Instead of selecting the title option, leave a note in the special To View More >>

When we arrived in San Francisco I was amazed by the number of homeless people on the streets. They weren't threatening, they were just there. Most people ignore them, and I did too. But not always. We’re just human, and my mind was not quietened by walking by. The guy on the tour bus warned us about “homeless scammers”. I talked about it with people in our study group, and with locals. Like it was their problem to fix. Silicon Valley is the seat of innovation in the world, with arguably some of the best design companies and schools, and the richest companies. What an audacious challenge To View More >>

We love quality materials, and quality workmanship, and we have the deepest respect for the people behind them. I remember our first visit to the French tannery that supplies our Contemporary leathers – being awestruck by the sheer number of colourful hides hanging in the rafters, all the one gorgeous shade, and all destined for Hermès. So when we came across the Hermès travelling Festival des Metiers (Festival of Crafts) we spared a moment to touch the leather hides and watch the leather craftsman at work. What blew us away, though, was the silk-screening demonstration. As I'm sure it does To View More >>

Yesterday's visits took us into the heart of first Ideo, then Google and Survey Monkey. All of them amazingly impressive with much to teach us about how you get to be the best in the world and create environments that foster creativity. We spend a lot of time at work, and with the people there. The better we can make work, the better our lives, but it's got harder since the financial meltdown. But Google sort of borrowed my breath, so to speak. The sheer magnitude: 16,000 people on the campus we visited. Hardly any looking older than 16, though they assured us the age range is extensive. We regret to say the fibre connection to our print lab has just been cut. As a consequence our FTP upload service has been disrupted and you will not be able to upload orders from Photojunction until it is repaired. Our lab team is also out of email and phone contact. Our Bindery staff are still able to communicate and Workspace is operating normally. We are moving staff between sites so that we can get tech support back up and running within an hour or so. We are working on this urgently and will advise when we know how long the repair will take, but we expect it to be a matter of several hours. To View More >>

One of the things I love most about our newest product update, is how tidy and streamlined it appears on our site. If you haven't looked already, have a browse of our new product pages and you'll see our new categories (Pressbooks, Flushmount, Overlay Matted, Classic Matted, Duo, Musee) and within each one we have a breakdown of all the options for that product: pages, sizes, cover styles, cover materials and accessories. Not only do I like it because I think it keeps things simple and tidy for photographers to look at, but I also think it can be a powerful tool for getting your clients (and potential To View More >>

Emma Hughes designed these beautiful wedding albums for Maya & Will. The bride and groom chose a gorgeous 14x10 album with a leather 1/4 page photo front.  The photograph is printed on a metallic paper with a textured laminate applied which seals the image and makes it especially hard-wearing as a cover option. Maya liked a white page design and Will preferred the black page designs, so the album was created with alternating black and white pages. Rather than getting a replica of Maya and Will’s feature album, their parents decided instead to choose a 10×7″ matted album, custom designed To View More >>
