Click here to watch on Vimeo. I've never met Crash Taylor, but I've been looking forward to interviewing him because of this endearing habit he has of poking his head above the parapet and getting shot at. As in this post, for example, which I published because he was nice enough to call Queensberry "the Tiffany of wedding albums". I didn't mean to buy into a storm, but I did anyway – as you can see from the post comments. You can read the full brouhaha on DWF if you're keen. For the record, I think it's hard to argue with "cheap publicity" (is there any other kind?) and when I spoke to him To View More >>

This post won't mean much to those of you who's knowledge of social media is limited to, "You know, Facebook and Twitter etc". But the rest of us are trying to get good at it without feeling like it consumes all our time. Anyway, I've just been asked my opinions about automation and social media. It's something I feel strongly about, and my advice is to "approach with caution". Here's why. 1. We're in the 'intimacy business', and automation is usually the the enemy of intimacy. If I skype my wife, "Hi darling – love you!", we both feel good about it. It was impulsive and heartfelt. Automate it To View More >>

My two children are getting married, and In Part 1 I talked about how my eyes have been opened by the experience. What would my kids get if they hired a "professional photographer” for $3500.00 or so? Generally the photographer's time on the day, a DVD, no post work, often from someone who doesn't know how to give a "wedding day experience" on top of everything else. $3500 feels like too much money for that, but as I pointed out, the wholesale costs involved are too high to expect much more. Prices like that encourage couples to go shopping with unrealistically low budgets for photography … To View More >>

My son is getting married in six weeks, and my daughter next year in May. So everyone's asking, “ Who did you pick to photograph your kids’ weddings?" That's not what I asked myself. I asked the same question as the people who come and see me: "How much is this gonna cost?" The answer really opened my eyes… When I analyzed it, I'm paying the photographer and their assistant for their time that day, and they are giving me the files. After the wedding, I personally will edit, color correct, create 4x6 proofs, order a proof box, design an album, do the post production work, order the album, To View More >>

We've created albums for celebrities of all sorts over the last forty years, from the likes of Pope John Paul 2, Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana through to many others famous in business, entertainment and the arts. It's hard to talk about because many famous clients quite rightly insist on total privacy regarding their images and we often receive requests from photographers for confidentiality, not just from celebrities but regarding culturally sensitive weddings. Those photographers have been chosen by their clients because of the trust and confidence they instill. To honour that confidence To View More >>

Johannes has a better metaphor, but the photo is from iStock. - Ed. The Bumble Bee Effect. Different to the Butterfly Effect because they haven't made a movie of the same name with at least two sequels. The Bumble Bee effect is all about buzz and pollen. It's about being talked about. We successfully did so by putting on an earthquake (a really big one). There are other ways to create a buzz that are much more positive. Obvious buzz topics are awards, photographing the wedding of Kate and Prince William, standing tall in the face of adversity, scandal, heroism, and achievement. (Actually 'scandal' To View More >>

Today is our 16th wedding anniversary. Today, I bring out our wedding album and indulge in the enjoyable recollection of the beginning of OUR love story. I revisit with those who were with us on the day, and remember those who aren't with us now. Our wedding album gets more and more precious as the years go on. I know he still loves me. How? He still turns my light off. He knows I still love him because I stroke his hand... sometimes :-) Love, Sonya To View More >>

We really love it when people get just as excited about wedding albums as we do! And Melissa Jill is a photographer who simply loves what she does. She recently blogged about her new Queensberry sample album for Dan & Lindsey who got married last October at the Royal Palms in Phoenix. "I'm so excited! I just received a new sample album from Queensberry. It's 18x10 inches of supple micro leather goodness. I wish you could touch it through the screen. It's SO soft! I wanted to offer a really unique album to my high end clients and this album fits the bill beautifully! It is available with various To View More >>

A huge crowd turned up last week to the first of our two-part webinar series focused on the most critical issue facing professional photographers: how to survive and thrive in today's demanding market. But plenty more people missed it and asked us to post a recording online. So here's part one: How to sell albums (and why) Or click here to watch it full screen on our vimeo channel. Ian (Director and co-founder), Stephen Baugh (Managing Director) and Jo Newman (UK Account Manager) answer some important questions... What can my competitors teach me? Not the movie! I am talking about wedding photography. OHHHH if only I had a dollar for every time somebody said to me can you airbrush/photoshop me thinner/more beautiful/younger/less wrinkled, and why oh why is it always, I want to look like Brad Pitt or Angelina?! I would be RICH!!!!! Filthy dirty rich, and in truth I would not have to make any money as a photographer. Photographers didn't really invent the lie ... Adobe did. Actually that is a lie, it was the first person to do a cave drawing representing themselves (or somebody else) as a bit more upright than they really were, or possibly To View More >>
