SEARCH RESULTS FOR: albums

If you haven't been to the Photojunction website or blog lately, you won't recognise them. What's going on? Well, the old PJ site had to go, for several reasons. • Danny was embarrassed by it (me too). • PJ has changed so fast that a lot of the support info was out of date. • There's a bit of misinformation out there (I'll get to that). • And it's high time we came out of the closet… So here's the story: In case you don't know, Photojunction is a Queensberry project. It dates back ten years to when we first realised that any album supplier without a software solution was history (we were To View More >>

Listen to people talk and you'd think only two people are involved in buying an album—the bride and her mother. But what happens if the person making the decisions is the guy? How do you sell to him? Well it's been a while since I got married but I'm a guy … let me think: If the first time you think about me is when you finally realise that I'm blocking your sale, too late! You needed to start paying attention a lot earlier. But let's start at that point anyway, and work backwards… 1. If you ignore me while doing that sales job on my girl I'm probably not going to be happy. There's been a To View More >>

My recent email suggested that if you can't name five things that differentiate you there is probably only one - price! Not a good look. Among the responses was this one: I'm so sick of working harder and not smarter with the middle to lower end. I want to start all over again and aim at the high end of the market with the best products and service. I have never done an album before. I made the decision to specialise in babies, children and family portraiture. I can visualise beautiful portrait albums sitting on my coffee table in the studio, but I don’t know where to start. Albums are not the To View More >>

Hey, you guys are album designers. Check out Johannes van Kan's recent post on the Queensberry Connects, Judging albums for awards. As a judge for the Australian Professional Photography Awards at PMA in Melbourne a week or so ago, he shares some insightful observations and advice about album design... And shares a few pointers for anyone entering albums for awards. Cheers, Nigel To View More >>

I've gathered enough gongs now to qualify for an opinion on album design. Last week I was a judge for the Australian Professional Photography Awards at PMA in Melbourne. This was an honour I shared with the lovely Jo Grams, Jerry Ghionis, Jackie Chan, Yervant and other luminaries. Several things became apparent: 1) Some authors treated the album as a set of individual prints, mixing black and whites with colours, verticals with horizontals, with blatant disregard for the influence of those images on each other. 2) Some authors were hypnotised by the ability to apply a filter to create a look ... More wisdom from the over-30s... ;) In this segment Jerry Tomko tells Heather and me why he won't take a wedding booking without an album, why the lady in his bagel shop doesn't like digital and what's wrong with shoot-and-burn. And Heather talks about the only question many photographers know to ask about albums ... and what's wrong with the question. Click here to listen (9:52 mins). More soon. Cheers, Ian PS Apologies again for the audio quality. To View More >>

As regular users will know, our new final v1.40 is now out in the wild. If you don’t use the Betas we think you’re in for a treat. As with all our Finals, it's a combination of features from the past two beta releases, 1.38b and 1.39b, but this time we also added two important changes that only affect Queensberry clients. We've blogged about them already on Queensberry Connects – a few controls about the use of Panoramas in matted albums and some changes to the QBY Upload Order process. We'll talk about a few juicy features we haven't covered yet over the next few days, but here are a few To View More >>

There was a time when the saying was, "Never trust anyone over 30!" But hey, check out my picture – that was then and this is now. Seriously folks, we were talking to Jerry Tomko at WPPI, and I thought ... this man has so much sensible stuff to share. So Heather and I took him up to the suite, sat him down with wine and nibbles and interviewed him around a single mic. Jerry is now a valued client, but he used to work as a rep for Art Leather. Here he talks about teaching people how to sell, why to sell albums (and frames), pre-designing an album in the days before digital, and more. Don't miss To View More >>

Jerry Tomko is a long time friend who comes to mind whenever we think of heavy Photojunction users. He designs and sells a huge number of albums each year and has been using the software for as long as we can remember. 1) What impact does Photojunction have on your album design workflow? Photojunction has had a huge impact on my album design workflow. I have always been a firm believer in predesign - and in wedding albums, and I truly believe you should be able to see what you are purchasing. Even back in the film days, I would always present to the client what the album would look like before To View More >>

Like many good things, and all great albums, Musée begins with a story. In fact it begins with three stories, and the real magic is how they weave together... The first begins several years ago with a traveller on a bus in Spain, who strikes up a conversation with the woman sitting next to him. They like each other enough to introduce themselves. He's a wedding photographer from the far side of the world, in Spain on a scholarship. She's a paper conservator living in England, home to visit her family in Barcelona - and as it turns out, later, in love. The photographer and the conservator To View More >>
