Photographs are the most personal of gifts! Talking about Christmas and the holidays in October seems a little weird, but the holiday season does seem to start earlier every year – and when it comes to marketing, it pays to be prepared. The festive season is a great time to promote yourself to existing customers. You've spent all year taking photographs, so why not maximise the profit on each shoot with online galleries, product sales and special offers? We spoke to retiring Queensberry account manager Michelle about her tips for holiday promotions, and marketing pointers To View More >>

We got a call from the Bindery team, who were blown away by Erin from Acorn Photography's new sample album. After seeing it ourselves we knew we had to ask Erin if we could share it... "Chelsea and Kirk tied the knot with a beach wedding in Thailand,"   says Erin. "The day was filled with partying under palm trees, and dining on the beach. And at the end of the night everyone, still dressed in their finery, spontaneously jumped into the pool." “The next day we were inspired to try it again and embraced the ‘drown the gown’ movement. Chelsea looked ethereal in her To View More >>

Panorama flushmounts are our fastest growing album category. Many photographers love the fact that the prints are creased, not cut, at the spine, that we offer both Fine Art (inkjet) and traditional photographic printing, and that our optional medium-weight pages mean you'll have a sleeker looking album, and can include more layouts. So here’s the thing: Is this the first you've heard about our Panos? Or maybe you never got round to ordering a sample? Now's the time! Get 50% off with our special offer. The city of San Francisco was the backdrop for Judy and Andrew’s urban wedding. From the bow-ties to the jazz band, their wedding gave a few nods to the Roaring Twenties. Their wedding and reception was held at City Club of San Francisco in San Francisco, California. Duy Ho Photography was their photographer of the day who is based in San Francisco. The flower arrangements and bouquets by Amy Burke Designs are so sweet and delicate. Click on the image for a closer look. Duy Ho has designed this album with the use of asymmetric layouts and lovely full-bleed images. The rooftop portraits To View More >>

If you specify Full Colour Service printing, we colour correct your images. The old fashioned way, one at a time. We don't run software shortcuts or bulk edit your images. Every single image (or layer) gets personal attention from our specialist colour correctors. It's their job to get your images looking their best and ready for printing and album assembly. Our colour correction policy is to achieve consistency across the images in your album and to optimise natural skin-tones ... and if we spot any problems, to let you know. Once we're done your images go straight to the lab for printing. No To View More >>

Although a lot of you love our albums (us too!) we operate on the simple principle that you're running a business, and if you can't make money selling them you shouldn't buy them. But there's no doubt many photographers do struggle. Partly that's because they sell a la carte, and have persuaded themselves that their clients don't want albums. I don't buy it. A la carte is often shorthand for having a cheap headline price, and no levers you can pull to make a better sale. (I'm not saying a la carte's a bad idea, but it needs close thought). As for people not wanting albums, it was the same story To View More >>

A series about storytelling in album design. We turn the page in a wedding album… It's night time and we're at the reception. We turn another page… We're back outside the church in bright daylight! How confusing is that? Not only is the mood of the imagery completely different, the natural flow of the story is disrupted and any feeling of the 'journey' is lost. Chronology creates flow It may sound too basic to mention, but sticking to the order of the day helps make your images into a story. It also speeds up album design by predetermining the order you lay them out on the pages. Here's something To View More >>

Just a few weeks ago, I received something that was a long time coming. My very own Queensberry Album! Now you can imagine why it took me just over a year to actually get it designed and ordered  - I'm a Queensberry designer - which is another way of saying that I'm a perfectionist. And when it came to my own album... it had to be doubly perfect! During the design process, I naively tried to involve Kurt with the decisions about which images to use and what size album to go for. This resulted in a few 'I don't know, just do what you want' type grunts, that weren't particularly helpful. However, To View More >>

The Iris Awards are an important platform for showcasing the outstanding talent of New Zealand professional photographers. This year we had six Queensberry clients win categories, and you can view their winning images on our blog post here. We were also pleased that Bruce Gabites won the Wedding Album category and allowed us to share his winning album layouts with you. Bruce says “being able to put together a great wedding album is the true test of a wedding photographer's ability and consistency by being able to capture a series of stunning images right throughout the day – not just being To View More >>

And no, this is not a scam. For those not in the know, I'm based at the Queenberry lab. They put up with me here as long as I sit quietly in the corner. It's a bit crowded as Philip Laing is sitting in the same corner. Anyway, I'm not allowed to speak so I get to listen to what's going on regarding some of the issues that our printers face. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but the terms and conditions of most album companies are a bit like the signs you used to see in china shops around New Zealand – "if you break it, you buy it". In other words, if you send us a crappy file, don't blame us if we To View More >>
